What is on-line treatment and is it effective?
On-line, or virtual therapy has existed for many years. It used to be called tele-health and was offered to remote areas prior to Covid-19. Dr. Phillips was involved in this when she worked in the hospital setting. In 2020, when in-person treatment was not possible, virtual treatment became more acceptable and individuals and therapists realized it was much more convenient and equally effective in most cases. For many, the ability to access high-quality treatment without having to travel, take a great deal of time away from work, school, or family, and be much more comfortable in their own home, make on-line therapy preferable to in-person treatment. Those who are uncertain are highly encouraged to schedule one session to try it out. Most forget they are online and comment they can work harder and process more emotion because they don't have to walk out into a waiting room full of people.
What types of therapies to you offer?
Rather than picking one treatment and applying it to the person, it is much more important to work together to identify the issues, then agree on a course of treatment. The benefit of seeing an experienced psychologist is that they have the skills to adapt and assist you with the issues you are struggling with, rather than applying the one of two specific treatments in which they are trained.
How long is treatment?
A rough rule of thumb is that the longer you have been struggling with the problem and the greater the difficulty it is causing, the longer the treatment. Some individuals require only one session! Dr. Phillips has the ability to do a rapid assessment and provide the most efficient and cost effective treatment for you.
How much do you charge per session?
Fees are set by the Psychology Association of Saskatchewan and are currently $235/hour. As Dr. Phillips is a Registered Doctoral Psychologist, these fees are likely covered by your insurance plan when they require a registered psychologist. Some do require a Ph.D., which Dr. Phillips has, but it is always helpful to double check.
Do you take insurance?
Yes, Dr. Phillips is to direct bill some plans but not all, so you may pay directly and be issued a receipt that you will submit for reimbursement. Feel free to ask and she can let you know if your plan can be billed directly.
